baby rush ~ winnipeg photographer

It’s time again for another Workin’ Woman Wednesday!

As a maternity/birth/newborn photographer I thought this would be something my clients would be especially interested in.

Welcome Hillery from Baby Rush! (LOVE that name, so so cute!)

Name: Hillery Taylor

AKA: Hill, Hilly

Hails from: Right here!I am a prairie girl through and through.

Name of your business: Baby Rush – Prenatal Education and Support        FaceBook Page

When was your business born? Summer of 2008 (induced by a lot of true love and a long labour)

Why did you start your business? What inspires you? I am an obstetric nurse (for over 6 years), who kept seeing so much fear and mis-guided information in women and their families who were coming to labour with me. I wanted to start a prenatal business where expectant moms and dads could get actual, honest and up-to-date information in a manner that is encouraging and supportive of women’s strength. I also wanted to be able to provide more holistic care to families in the community and get the joy to see them at the hospital on the big day. I am a firm believer that knowledge is power, and I think everyone needs to take charge of themselves during this time and help start this phase of life in the healthiest and strongest way possible. I am constantly inspired by “the body” – it amazes me everyday. I believe that if we listen to our bodies, they will help guide us to a stronger foundation that opens up the chance for new possibilities. I hope to help women get inspired by what they have – their own body and strength.

What does you business offer? I offer prenatal education on everything I would want you to know if you were coming into labour with me, as well as all “hot topics” and topics that can be surrounded by fear. Together, we explore labour in all of its glory (the fun and the not-so-fun stuff) and birth (the best part!). We also look at the journey of getting to the birthday party (pregnancy) and what comes next (postpartum recovery), in addition to the crazy ride that the whole family goes through with having a brand spanking new bundle in the home. I am also a huge breastfeeding advocate, and adore teaching about how amazingly tough and worthwhile this new “career” will be/is. I do group and private teaching on pregnancy, labour and delivery, postpartum, and breastfeeding (before and after baby for all of the above), as well as private breastfeeding assistance in the home. I pride myself in being a resource for anything pregnancy, baby or mama related, both in and outside of the classroom. So much to talk about and I LOVE every minute of it!

Where do you see your business in the future? My goal has always been to open my very own family centre where I can provide holistic care through pregnancy and well into the family years. I would love to have space where “my girls” and their families can drop in for a visit and continue the relationship and the fun. I am my happiest when surrounded by bellies/babies and have a baby in my arms. I hope to be able to start this next business phase of my life soon…

How do you balance work/family? Since I have not had the honour of having my own babies yet, I don’t have to juggle as much as most. My little family consists of my amazing husband Graham and my “furry baby” Nixon (my 2.5 year old Boxer) and believe it or not, I can’t wait to add more to my plate – don’t hate me moms out there, I am sure I will eat my words eventually!

Now for a few “fun” questions…

Skills: Nursing/caring (I have been told that it is my calling and this warms my heart like I can’t explain), multi-taking (I think it is biological and comes with being a woman, you have to multi-task if you work where I work!), cooking (food is one of the greatest loves of my life), eating (makes sense doesn’t it?!)

Challenges: I am stubborn as all heck. I have this constant inner fight of being laid back/loosey-goosey girl and a total control freak. I think what ends up happening is that I am a control freak about being relaxed. Ugg…

Chips or chocolate? Can I pick popcorn? Especially the way that my hubby and I make it (it actually IS healthy) – best stuff on earth and I can get totally out of hand with the stuff. Second choice has gotta be chocolate (in any possible form).

Secret weapon: Yoga – I think I would be climbing the walls somewhere right now without it. Baths – life is better in the bath.

Enemies/pet peeves: The expression “don’t be a hero” – all of my clients know what I mean! Early mornings – if the sun is not out yet, it is “night time” which means I should be in my bed.

Can’t live without: My husband and family. Hands down.

Heroes: Mothers everywhere (especially my own). The strength, power, perseverance and work ethic women have, and can still manage to be the softest, warmest and most comforting people on earth.

Little known facts: I secretly want to sing. I would love to have the guts to belt it out in front of anyone other than myself.

Anything else we should know? I have Lyme Disease, and have been in this heavy, progressive battle since 2006. I have made huge progress in the past 2 years of being on treatment, but it is sort of like a third job (a really crappy one where YOU have to pay the boss who yells at you all the time). I am working on it everyday and my determination to win and get my life back fuels me to not give up. I want to join the sisterhood of mamas and will do ANYTHING/go through ANYTHING to get there. Like I said, I am stubborn as all heck and won’t take no as an answer!

Thanks so much Hillery for telling us a bit about yourself and your business! I can’t wait to see what you’ve got in store for the future:)

If Baby Rush seems like a service you need give her a call or like her FB page!

Thanks for looking!

baby on board ~ winnipeg maternity photography

I love my repeat clients. I often have  repeat clients ask when inquiring about another session, “do you remember me?” This kind of makes me chuckle because, yes, I remember all of my clients. I remember their names, their kids names, where our session was, I probably remember which pictures they ordered. I love getting to see clients again. To see how their children have grown and changed. It is one of the best parts of my job:)

I first met this couple at The Winnipeg Baby & Kids Show. They were expecting their first baby and I was honoured to capture both the maternity session and their newborn session. So I was thrilled when they contacted me again to photograph their second baby.

Dad is a pilot so I suggested we go to the Winnipeg Airport for their session. This building will be coming down in the next year or so to make way for our new airport so I thought we could preserve a little history here.

Check back on Monday for their sweet baby girl:)

Thanks for looking!

♥Carol
